Choose Forgiveness Today
Matthew 6:14-15 (NIV)
Forgiveness is a powerful act that sets us free from bitterness and resentment. In Matthew 6:14-15, Jesus teaches us that if we forgive others, our Heavenly Father will also forgive us. When we choose to forgive, we are obeying God's command and reflecting His love and mercy to others. It's not always easy, but forgiveness is necessary for our spiritual growth and healing. Holding onto grudges only weighs us down and hinders our relationship with God.
Reflection
"Choose Forgiveness Today" is a short reflection to carry into your day. It speaks directly to the theme of forgiveness, and to the ordinary faith we live out day by day. Forgiveness is not pretending a wound never happened; it is releasing the right to hold it against someone. Scripture ties our willingness to forgive to our awareness of how much we have been forgiven. People who grasp the size of their own debt tend to cancel the smaller debts of others. Is there a resentment you have been carrying, rehearsing the offence until it feels permanent? Forgiveness is a decision before it is a feeling. Choose today to release one grudge to God, and ask him to heal what it has been protecting. Read Matthew 6:14-15 again slowly, and let it shape how you live today — in your family, your work, and your church community. A prayer: Lord, you have forgiven me far more than I will ever be asked to forgive. Soften my heart toward those who have hurt me, and free me from the weight of holding on. Amen.
