The Heart of Service: Following Jesus's Example
John 13:14-15 (NIV) (NIV)
Service is at the core of what it means to follow Christ. Jesus himself exemplified servanthood by washing His disciples' feet (John 13:1-17), teaching us humility and selflessness. When we serve others, we mirror His love and demonstrate the Gospel in action.
Reflection
"The Heart of Service: Following Jesus's Example" is a short reflection to carry into your day. It speaks directly to the theme of service, and to the ordinary faith we live out day by day. In the kingdom of God, greatness is measured downward. The leader kneels; the first becomes last; the one who would be great becomes the servant of all. Service is not a lower calling we outgrow but the very shape of a life that follows Jesus. Look for one small, hidden act of service today — something with no audience and no reward. Serving in secret keeps the heart humble and tender. Who can you quietly help this week? Read John 13:14-15 (NIV) again slowly, and let it shape how you live today — in your family, your work, and your church community. A prayer: Lord, you came not to be served but to serve. Free me from the need to be noticed, and give me joy in laying down my life in small, unseen ways. Amen.
