The Lord's Prayer

Matthew 6:9-13 (WEB)

Pray like this: ‘Our Father in heaven, may your name be kept holy. Let your Kingdom come. Let your will be done, as in heaven, so on earth. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our debts, as we also forgive our debtors. Bring us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. For yours is the Kingdom, the power, and the glory forever. Amen.’

Reflection

The prayer Jesus taught his followers to pray. This is one of the most loved passages in Scripture, and it still speaks powerfully to the theme of prayer. When the disciples asked how to pray, Jesus gave them something short enough to memorise and deep enough to last a lifetime. It begins with God's name and kingdom before our needs, reminding us that prayer reorders our priorities before it changes our circumstances. Pray this prayer slowly today, pausing at each line. Notice how it moves from worship, to surrender, to daily provision, to forgiveness. Let it be a pattern, not just a recitation — a way of bringing your whole life to God. Read Matthew 6:9-13 again slowly, and let it shape how you live today — in your family, your work, and your church community. A prayer: Father, teach me to pray as Jesus taught. Let your name be honoured and your will be done in me today. Give me what I need, forgive me, and help me forgive. Amen.
